Dad Can Have It All

This June, we’re celebrating Father’s Day with a food and wine paring fit for a king, plus a tribute to our namesake.

Treat Dad like royalty with June’s surf & turf special, featuring a mouthwatering 8-ounce tenderloin filet with a 7-ounce broiled Maine lobster tail. The dish comes with our famous au gratin potatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables, and Jack’s signature herb butter.

Try it on any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday in June for $69.95 plus tax.

Pairing of the Month: Surf & Turf with Pinot Noir

You’ve likely heard the rule. Red with meat, white with seafood. But what wine complements both robust red meat and the succulent flavor of shellfish?

Balanced and light-bodied, pinot noir enhances the flavor of a perfectly cooked filet mignon without overpowering the delicate lobster. This red wine enchants the palate with the bright and tangy flavor of red fruit (strawberry, cherry, raspberry, and blackberry) and a hint of earthiness.

Jack’s Place offers several highly rated pinot noirs, by the glass and by the bottle.

The Man Behind the Caricatures

Jack Rosen, father of Harris Rosen, was born in New York City in 1914 to Russian immigrants. After his family opened a small Lower East Side restaurant, Jack worked tirelessly to make it a success.

In 1932, Jack landed a job as safety engineer at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. During his 30 years with the hotel, he combined his artistic talents and brilliant sense of humor to sketch caricatures of the celebrities that stayed there. Jack, however, drew more than famous faces. He used his caricatures to cheer up wounded warriors at veterans hospitals around the U.S. and in Vietnam during the war. President Lyndon B. Johnson awarded him a Commendation Medal for his efforts overseas.

Jack Rosen is credited with creating more than 100,000 caricatures, likely the most by a single artist anywhere in the world. To honor the vitality and wit that defined his life, we proudly display 175 of these drawings on the walls of Jack’s Place.
